At our Church a banner proclaims “The Christian Community welcomes you with great joy” naming the children baptised that week. This is the ethos of the Baptism Preparation Team, a visit by members of the parish to new parents to welcome the baby and to provide instruction about the Baptism ceremony. Baptism Teams of two arrange to visit the family home and outline the ceremony, using the Parish Baptism Booklet, explaining the religious significance of the ceremony.
The warm welcome received during the visits show that the new parents are delighted to learn about Baptism, what is expected from them, godparents and family and their involvement in the ceremony, creating a special and memorable day. An aspiration of the team is to encourage the parents to see their relationship with the parish community as an ongoing and important part of life. As members of our Parish Baptism Team this ministry is for us a joy, a privilege and a celebration of the real meaning of our own Baptism.
